Curtis Wright Outfitters 2013 Hosted Yellowstone Trip
Day 1
So today was the first official day of fishing, and everybody was eager to try their hand at Yellowstone country. Boy did we get a taste. The group had different agendas for the day with Ken, Chuck, Chris and Bob all going to stream X. Richard and Ralph hit the confluence of the Yellowstone and the Lamar and Jim and Julie did a wade trip with Park’s Fly shop. Herb Tom and John spent their day on the Lamar. Jason and Sang journeyed into the second meadow of Slough Creek while Jeff ,Aaron, and myself stopped at the first.
Jim and Julie had a great day beating up on the brookies in the am and chase some nicer fish in the afternoon. Ralph and Richard got into some really nice fish on the lower Lamar and they were feeding on Large Hopppers.
Herb, John, and Tom also did well with hoppers fishing the bigger water of the Lamar Canyon. Fish were coming from the depth to taste their presentation. The boys on Stream X were unfortunately greeted by extremely low water, but also by extremely eager fish. Fish were concentrated in the larger pools but were more than ready to eat. They experienced one session of super hot action at the mouth of stream X. Jason, Sang, Aaron, Jeff and Myself hiked into the 1st and 2nd meadow of Slough and Both had tremendous days fishing hoppers, beetles, and ants. and had some spectacular scenery to boot.
Just as our great first day was starting to wrap up Yellowstone showed us her hand and it included Thunder, Lightning, Rain and 3 stints of Hail. Not a bad thing to experience from inside but hiking out in that was an experience to say the least. Luckily we had Pork Tenderloin and roasted veggies when we got home to refuel, because we are definitely going to need the energy tomorrow with half of the group being on their own and the other half doing the first day of horseback to the 3rd meadow.
